About Renaissance Parents of Success

Renaissance Parents of Success (RPOS) has been working in the San Francisco community for over 35 years.  Evolving from a smaller organization focused on GED preparation and the special educational needs of young mothers, programs have positively expanded.  Education and training are key to the door of opportunity, and RPOS serves as a bridge for those who lack education, economic self-sufficiency, self-awareness & direction.  RPOS takes a holistic approach to assure no participant falls between the cracks.  The whole person must be healed because the mind, spirit and body are interconnected.

Services

Participants receive the tools to advance academically & vocationally, as well as to develop greater self-esteem and healthier lifestyles.  Customized plans are developed & implemented focused on strengthening participants, families, and the community overall.

Core Program Components

Educational/Vocational

Core Academic & Mentoring Support focused on: Highschool & GED completion/Career Planning & Vocational Development/Paid Internships. Technology Training with a focus on coding is also provided. Integrated in the program are field trips to major companies and medical facilities so that youths and young adults can talk to employees and observe appropriate workplace demeanor.

Job Readiness/Placement

Pre-Job Readiness Actions Plans focused on: Creating professional resumes/ Successful interview methods/Follow-up techniques such as thank you letters. RPOS Program Employment Specialists also invite potential employers to workshops, where they provide participants with information on their company’s hiring policies, job qualifications, and work expectations.

Financial Literacy

Saving and managing finances is key and many program participants have not been shown how to effectively do this. It is our desire to change this culture by working with participants to open checking and savings accounts. When youths and young adults are able to build material assets, they are more likely to achieve positive outcomes such as higher expectations; confidence about the future; and long-term thinking & planning.

Wraparound Services

Wraparound services encompass needed support in areas such as life skills and barrier removal services. Not only are participants provided with key developmental support, but also with services focused on reducing violent incidents and negative contacts with law enforcement, which generally results in the continued deterioration of the family. Support as needed is also provided to youths and young adults in positively going through the court system & the Clean Slate Program. RPOS involves the entire family & family activities are also an integral part of the program.

I am a past participant in the Renaissance Youth Movement Program. The program helped me to develop a strong work ethic and to understand that I am capable of greatness. I am now an entrepreneur in the beauty industry and the skies the limit!

I was in the Renaissance Youth Movement Program and they helped me learn life skills and job readiness. When I aged out of the youth program, they helped me enroll in the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Internship program. I currently have a Masters in Social Work degree, and I stay connected to the Renaissance program staff.

I cannot say enough about what Renaissance Parents of Success has done and continues to do for me. They helped me to apply for the SFO Custodial Internship Program. I completed the program and have been working at SFO for more than 10 years. Whenever I need something, they are always available to help.

I am so thankful for the Renaissance program. They are always ready and willing to help everyone in the community. When they have an event, my whole family comes out to support in anyway we can. They are never too busy or too tired to serve us so we pass it forward and support them.

I am a participant in the Renaissance Parents of Success program, and over the years they have prepared and helped me to get many jobs. I currently hold the position of supportive housing manager at the 3rd st Youth Clinic. I can testify that without the constant encouragement and support of the Renaissance Parents of Success staff, I would not be where I am today.

I have been in the Renaissance Program since I was 13 years old. They supported me in graduating from high school and find job opportunities. When I wasn't working they helped me apply for unemployment. In 2019, I enrolled in the security training program, and they bought my uniforms and paid for my guard card test and finger prints.

I am a past participant of Renaissance Parents of Success. I am now 27 years, and the program continues to support me and my daughter. I graduated college with my AA degree in Criminal Justice in November 2013, and in 2015 I got into the Transportation industry and have been in it for slightly over 4 years now.

I started with the Renaissance Program when, I was 13 years old. Through my connection with the program I developed a sense of community and the need for more role models. I graduated with a BS in physics from Utah State University and am currently in a masters program at USF for Counseling Psychology with dual concentration in Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) and Professional Clinical Counseling (PCC). I have facilitated a young man's group at Marina Middle school, and from 2019 to 2020, was an intern. I will soon be assuming an internship at a local high school as well as at the San Francisco Aids Foundation.
